The Rev. Dr. Holly A. Beaumont
Legislative Advocate
Holly Beaumont moved to New Mexico in 1986 to serve as pastor of First Christian Church of Santa Fe during which time it became an Open and Affirming congregation. With the church located just two blocks from the state capital (called the Roundhouse) she became increasingly involved in legislative activities. In 1999, after 13 years, she retired from parish ministry to devote herself to social justice ministrym, including work on the NM Hate Crimes bill, which was passed in 2003. In 1998 she received the Santa Fe Human Rights Alliance’s Advocate Award.
Next to social justice issues, Holly’s passion is interfaith dialogue. She is a founder and president of the Santa Fe Jewish and Christian Dialogue, created in 1995. Holly is currently a member of the coordinating committee for the Santa Fe Living Wage. She represents the New Mexico Conference of Churches on the NM Fair Wage Coalition and the NM Coalition to Repeal the Death Penalty and is a member of Somos Un Pueblo Unidos, a local immigrants rights organization.
Holly graduated from Lexington Theological Seminary with the Doctorate in Ministry degree and was ordained in 1975. Since then she has served in Arizona, Oklahoma and Seattle, Washington. She and her husband James Mokres intend to make Santa Fe their home as long as the water lasts.
